Weekly Flight Deals: Eat, Pray, Love Experience

weeklyflightdeals

I’m dedicating this week’s travel deal on the movie that sparked my wanderlust: Eat, Pray, Love. Since watching that movie, I have dreamed of escaping to paradise to do some soul searching. I put together a little deal for anyone who wishes to have the same experience as the author of Eat, Pray, Love herself! The hotel is fully operational and budget friendly. Take a look!

Weekly Flight Deals: Go Tropical!

Hello! It’s time for some weekly flight deals! I just want to add a friendly reminder to always read the fine print when booking tickets with discount websites. Many places do not allow for refunds and have high costs for any changes. Also they don’t normally include the cost of baggage. BUT this is why the ticket is so cheap! So please remember that if you book any of the tickets suggested by me. Thank you 🙂

Weekly Flight Deals

Hey this is Jess! I know I haven’t posted in a WHILE because I have been so busy. But this blog is really important to me and Steph so are going to try and post as often as we can! Thank you for sticking around.

So I want to start this new thing there I list a few flight deals each week. I wish I could be taking advantage of these amazing prices right now, however due to being in school, working, and doing my internship I have no extra time or money. Since I find so many good deals that I can’t use, I want to share them with the readers!

weeklyflightdeals

My flight search process: I always start with SkyScanner.com. This website has so many customizable options to help you find the lowest fares. You pick your departure airport (ex: NYC) and then pick Everywhere as your destination. And instead of picking specific travel dates, you can select Whole Month or Cheapest Month. Once I find a deal, I will compare the price with the airline’s website price and I adjust the dates a bit to see if I can get the cheapest price possible.

Note: I’ll be sharing flight deals that are generally from the east coast since that is where I live. If you would like to get flight deals from other parts of the US, feel free to ask!

The Three Magic Rules of Cheap Travel:

Be flexible with your dates

Travel during the off season

Compare, compare compare!

For my first Weekly Flight Deals, I’ll be sharing flights to what I call the Big Three: London, Paris, and Rome. When I ask people their dream destinations, these three places are generally high on the list… I know they are high on mine!

Round Trip One-stop Flight from New York City to Rome

All prices include taxes and fees! Now, I understand that not everyone wants to travel in the chilly winter months. If you would like to travel in warmer months, you can switch up the airport that you fly in to and then take a local European airline to you desired destination. Bus and train also work well too! I will post more about those types of trips in the future.

See you next week!

Exploring Wissahickon Valley Park

Good evening!

It has been quite a while since I last posted, but I have been super busy with work, class/homework, and my internship. I barely have a free moment! I finally scheduled an afternoon for myself to walk along some easy trials close to where I work.

Wissahickon Valley Park is part of the Fairmount Park system in Philadelphia, PA. It runs along the the Wissahickon Creek which stretches from Chestnut Hill to Manayunk. I have driven past this park many times while working over in Philly and have always desired to explore it. This park is so large that I barely made it halfway through the trails after 4 hours! I probably walked about 6 miles total along the easy trails. There are also moderate trails along the valley that I plan to check out in the future. Please visit the Friends of the Wissahickon website for more information and plan your trip today!

I shot my trip photos with my iPhone 5 and my Lieqi clip on lenses! I ordered them for around $10 on Amazon.

This kit included 3 different types of lenses: Fish Eye, Wide Angle, and Macro. They are AWESOME and I love to play around with them. It is so much fun to get photos from a different perspective. Check out my gallery below. And as always, please comment and subscribe!

Jessica’s Photos from Mt. Tammany

I’m sure you’ve all read Steph’s awesome post about the Delaware Water Gap! Today I’m going to share the photos that I took from that amazing trip.

This trip would count as my second major hiking trip. Mt. Tammany is around 1500ft above sea level (pretty close in height to Hawk Mountain actually). By researching a few websites, I knew what to expect and had confidence that I could complete it. Sure, it was exhausting but the views were worth it.

Jim Thorpe, PA

Hey all! Well, I haven’t exactly been anywhere too cool recently to post about, BUT there is one place that I was at not too long called, Jim Thorpe, PA! Jim Thorpe is a little town in the mountains by the Poconos! Its cute, it’s quaint and a really nice get away for a decent price!

IMG_20150517_150706_146

I really wanted to take Pete, my boyfriend, some where nice for his birthday this year and I found Jim Thorpe to be in my budget!! We stayed in a private apartment while we were there, which was the most expensive thing, totaling around $330.00. But we stayed two nights, in a private apartment, with a kitchen that was completely stocked with food,  a small dining area, a couch, a little television, a very comfortable bed, with our own entrance and reserved parking spot (which was fabulous because if you have ever been to Jim Thorpe, you know parking doesn’t come easy!).  The woman who owns it was very friendly and had bought Pete a box of chocolates for his birthday which she left on the coffee table! It was a very nice apartment, one that I would recommend to anyone if your looking to spoil yourself for a moderate cost! I loved it! 🙂

While we were there, we walked around the cute town and enjoyed the festivities they were having as it was Jim Thorpe’s birthday celebration. They had vendors, all sorts of tables set up for arts and crafts, live music that echoed through the mountainous town! It was really neat!! Then, we took the train ride through the mountains. I believe it was about $10.00 each. Not to bad! It was a relaxing train ride, the guide educated us on the history of the town as well as the nature that surrounds it. The wild life was awesome and the view was incredible!

We also did a tour of the Old Jail tour in town. It was very interesting and also inexpensive, I believe $7.00 per person!

At Jim Thorpe, there are plenty of places to eat for a great price, sights to see for free, and many, many tours to do for usually no more than $15.00!

While I was there, I looked into camp grounds around the area. There are many. The one I was interested in was Roundstone Camping!  I’d like to go camping here, and do some hiking sometime soon. The cost is only $38.00 for a tent site, I believe.

If you are interested in in getting out for a weekend, I highly suggest going here! Whether you prefer to enjoy a private apartment, do the tours and eat at the more pricier places (which are very delicious) OR if you like to get down and dirty with a tent, a backpack and yourself, get some inexpensive food, go hiking and swim in the river afterwards, this is the place for you! Me? I love both 🙂

Please check out the Jim Thorpe website for yourself sometime!

Budget Camping Gear

Need some new camping stuff on a cheap budget? Take a look at these products by Ozark Trail that I picked up at Walmart without breaking the bank!

Ozark Trail Warm Weather Sleeping Bag

I needed a new sleeping bag and I didn’t want to break the bank on something fancy from the North Face. Of course I would love to have some stuff from the North Face, but I just don’t have the money right now. So here is a good quality sleeping bag for weekend camping trips that only costs $15 at Walmart!

Upon opening the bag and unrolling it in the bag, I noticed the soft and comfortable texture of the material and the quality of the zipper. Sleeping through the night was difficult for me (due to lack of extra cushion underneath), but this bag kept me warm and toasty when the air outside was in the mid to lower 50s. As you can see, it is ideally made for warm weather at 50 degrees fahrenheit or warmer. I did not get cold at all… and I get cold easily.

Ozark Trail 2 Person Dome Tent

Now Dan and I planned to borrow a 6 person tent from his mom, but then we decided we didn’t want the hassel of putting up an extra large tent. So I wandered around the Walmart looking for something small, cheap, and easy. This tent was only $29 and it is even recommended for backpacking (something I hope to do in the near future).

This tent was light to carry and easy to assemble. One 7 x 7 square of fabric and two poles. Done and done. I glanced at the instructions and had it put together in under 10 minutes. I figure at the end of a long day hiking, this is something I will definitely appreciate in the future. I feel like the size was adequate for two people to lay down and sit up comfortably. There was even extra space along the sides for bags, shoes, clothes, water bottles, etc.

So for less than $50 I picked up two essential, good quality camping products from Walmart. They sell some more expensive and high quality camping supplies as well. Check it out sometime if you don’t have a lot of cash or if you need some gear that you only plan on using a few times a year. I hope to use this stuff more than that, so I will see how far these products last. Eventually I will save up some cash to get some fancy gear.
